When The Friedenstal Historical Society (Alberta) decided that they needed a new bigger community centre to replace their old hall they chose a complex eight-sided design with a very complicated pie shaped roof. They also wanted their new building to be energy-efficient and built to last a century or better. Their architect recommended they consider Structural Insulated Panels for wall and roof components because of the ease and quickness of envelope erection and the high energy performance capability and their structural strength. After lots of dialogue with the Friedenstal building committee and their Architect – Field Field & Field, Greensmart became the SIP supplier of choice.
Greensmart’s technical staff helped work through the formalities of adapting the complicated design to SIPs and it their work paid off for the volunteers, they were able to assemble a complicated eight-sided structure with relative ease in a very short time frame. Greensmart’s SIPs walls were stood in one week!
The SIP envelope with it superior insulating and air tightness qualities ensures that this beautiful community centre will save the Friedenstal Society thousands of dollars in energy costs for the long life span of the building.
